Aug 31, 2016. #1. I installed an external soil pipe, however the 4" solvent weld connected is leaking, tried to wipe more glue on but still weeping. I'll be taking out and renewing but there's a lot to take out then replace, do any of you have any sensible suggestions or know any product that will fix??
While the JB-weld may appear to be sealing in operation the pipe wall will change dimension from thermal expansion while the topical sealer does not. This then opens up minute cracks between the sealant and the pipe or fitting, resulting in another leak. The only sure way to repair a joint that was not glued properly is to cut it out and
Interior Plumbing. To determine if the leak is from defective plumbing, turn off all faucets and appliances that use water in your home, and write down the number on the water meter. Wait three hours, and recheck the water meter. If water usage increased, it's a sign that the leak is coming from indoor plumbing.

If 2, given the fact that the pipe is connected to a fitting in my roof, I'm a little hesitant to use a hand saw. Luckily this pipe isn't used for pressurized water or the like. Thanks in advance!
It would have to be a very POOR joint to leak from the amount of water that would get in to the vent pipe. I am more inclined to believe the leak is at the roof and running down the pipe, then dripping off when the pipe turns the corner. If it is really the joint, just brush some PVC cement around the joint. May 7, 2007. 37,770. Silver Spring, MD. Jun 3, 2013. #2. In general bad PVC joints should be cut out and replaced. You can occasionally get enough glue into the joint to seal it for now, but it will never be as good a joint as a correctly glued joint. Report. Roll it in your hands to get it warm. Now start rolling it into a snake-like shape. Make it as long as you need. Clean the area where you will use the putty. Dry the surface with a rag or towel. Lay the rope-shaped putty into the place where the seal is to be. Press into place until secured to the surface. In two to five minutes before the putty dries, dunk the entire bandage roll in a bucket of water to wet it. Then, wrap the wet bandage around the pipe and putty, extending the bandage a bit beyond the putty on each side. You want to cover the area with about 12 to 15 wraps of the bandage and keep the bandage taut while you work. Group Moderator. Join Date: Mar 2003. Location: NC, USA. Posts: 27,160. Upvotes: 118. The first step in fixing a leaking PVC P-trap is to identify where the leak is coming from. If the leak is at one of the joints between pipes, try tightening the coupling nuts. Fixing a threaded leak without disassembly. I have a leak in my shower valve assembly. The supply line (1/2" copper) is sweated onto an elbow and then the other end of the elbow is female threaded. The assembly is also female threaded. So there is a male-male connector between them. I have a drop coming out of that screwed connection about once
Once the paste is dry, slowly inject epoxy into the injection ports, one by one. Start at the lowest port and fill until the epoxy is seen in the next port. Cap off the lowest port, then continue along the crack in this manner. Epoxy will fill the entire crack, from the interior to exterior, and cures in about 5 hours.

Use stainless steel clamps and insert fittings to repair the leak. Cut open the joint with PEX pipe cutter insert fittings and rejoin with clamps and screws. Follow these steps on how to fix a leaking pipe joint using a clamp and patch: Turn off the water supply to the leaking pipes and clean the area around the hole to be patched. There is an art to using repair couplings, since when both ends are fixed, you have to slide it all the way on one pipe at each end, then put it in place, then slide it back, getting it centered on the joint on each end before the cement sets enough to make it impossible to move it!
